PENSACOLA, Fla. - Top-Seeded and Fourth-ranked West Florida (18-6) dominated their NCAA Division II South Regional First round match against fourth-seeded Tuskegee (14-10) loosing only one on game en route to a 5-0 victory Thursday morning at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex located on the UWF campus.
The Argonauts won convincingly in doubles action falling in only game and swept all three matches. Tammy Kevey (Auckland, New Zealand) and Christian Mardones shut out their double opponents Avia Washington and Melana Singeltary 8-0. Suzana Cavalcante (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paola Arevalo (Cali, Columbia) followed suit sweeping their doubles foes, 8-0, Kameila Triche and Charlotte Pullium.
Cavalcante and Kevey finished things off for West Florida without dropping a single game in singles action, winning in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
With the win the Argonauts have won six of their last eight matches in shut out fashion. West Florida advances to host the winner of Thursday's afternoon match pitting Gulf South Conference foes second-seeded Harding (21-6) against third-seeded North Alabama (8-9). The match is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
