UWF Women's Tennis Blanks 30th Ranked Cameron 9-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida Women's tennis team has now won eight matches in a row, with their impressive 9-0 win over 30th ranked Cameron University on Tuesday at the Skeeter Carson Tennis complex. The 18th ranked Argos swept the Aggies in straight sets in all six singles wins, and improved to 9-6 on the year. Meanwhile, Paola Arevalo and Suzanna Cavalcante continued their dominance in doubles with their 14th straight win at the number one doubles spot. Arevalo and Cavalcante are the fifth ranked doubles team in the nation.

The toughest two matches of the day came at number two and number three doubles. Lorena Rebolledo and Taylor Brewster downed Kim Romero and Viviana Seca by an 8-6 score at number two doubles. Rebolledo and Brewster are now 6-3 in doubles play at the number two spot this year. At number three doubles, Tatiana Rodrigues and Renata Mattos also pulled out an 8-6 win, and improved their doubles record this season to an impressive 11-0.

In singles, the third ranked Cavalcante downed 33rd ranked Irene George by a 6-2, 6-0 score to improve her singles record in dual matches this year to 9-4. Arevalo, currently ranked 45th in the nation, dropped her opponent, Kim Romero, by a 6-2, 6-2 score, to improve to 7-5 at number two singles. The 43rd ranked Renata Mattos defeated Megan de Blonk by a 6-2, 6-1 score to improve to 11-2 at the number three singles spot.

Taylor Brewster cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win to improve to 6-5 at the number four singles position, while Lorena Rebolledo dropped Sophia Rich by a 6-4, 6-2 count for her third win at number five singles, squaring her record at 3-3 for the season at number five. Tatiana Rodrigues may have had the toughest singles battle, but prevailed by a 6-3, 7-5 score over Whitney Renfurm at the number six spot. Rodrigues is now 5-1 at the number six singles spot.

The Argonauts will next participate in the Blue-Gray Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama on March 27th thru the 29th. The Argos will return home in April, with three home matches in the first eight days of the month. BYU-Hawaii is the first opponent on April 1st, and Gulf South Conference opponent Delta State will be in town in early April as well as Troy State.
