Pensacola, Fla. The West Florida Women's Tennis team (7-6, 4-0 GSC) seems to have bounced back from a tough season start. The 18th ranked Argonauts blanked UT Martin (3-6) this Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carlson Complex, located at the UWF main campus. to earn its sixth straight win. The Argos, who at one point had a 1-6 overall record, bounces back from a tough season start, by shutting down 9-0 Division I UT Martin to post its sixth straight win. Against the Skyhawks, the Argos dominated the singles and doubles play, not dropping a single match.

In the first doubles spot, the Division II fifth ranked doubles team formed by Argonauts Suzana Cavalcante (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paola Arevalo (senior/Cali, Colombia) defeated 8-4 the team formed by Skyhaws Elrzma Schoonees and Ernestine Koornhof. In the second doubles position, the Argonauts Taylor Brewster (freshman/Ontaro, Canada) and Lorena Rebolledo (freshman/Puebla,Mexico) defeated 8-6 Skyhawks Julianne McMeen and Belissa de Brito. In the third doubles spot, Renata Mattos (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tatiana Rodrigues (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Martie Wahl and Mary Beth Gunn with a 8-2 score, giving the 3-0 lead to the Argonauts.

In singles action, the Argos earned six more points. Playing in the first singles position, Division II third ranked, Cavalcante, easily defeated Schoones with a 6-2, 6-0 score. In the second position, Division II 45th ranked, Arevalo came back from a set down to beat Wahl 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. Division II ranked, Mattos was pushed to a third set and beat de Brito 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 in the third singles spot. Playing in the fourth spot, Brewster defeated Koornhof 7-5, 6-0. In the fifth spot, Rebolledo defeated Gunn with a 6-2, 6-3 score. The last point earned by the Argos was in the sixth singles spot, when Rodrigues defeated McMeen with a double 6-2 score, to give the Argonauts a final score of 9-0.

The Argonauts improved to a 7-6 overall record, while the Skyhawks dropped to 3-6. The Argos will return to action next Monday 17th, at 2:00p.m. CT. The Argonauts will play Berry College at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carlson Complex located at the UWF main campus.
