Pilar Cortes is in her third season as women's assistant coach after enjoying a four-year playing career at West Florida. Cortes finished her career in 2005 as one of the winningest women's tennis players in West Florida history. She compiled a 73-22 record in singles, while posting an 85-29 mark in doubles play.
Cortes improved her singles victories each season. She won 15 matches as a freshman before finishing with a 22-6 singles record as a senior. She won more than 20 doubles matches twice, including a 30-4 doubles record in 2004. In 2005, Cortes received recognition on the All-Gulf South Conference First Team.
Cortes is a native of Cali, Colombia, and is taking her master's degree in Marine Biology at UWF. Cortes also works with the Marine Invertebrates.
Pilar is a daughter of Leonor and Jaime Cortes and has two siblings, Carlos and Monica.
