BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Florida Softball Pitcher Jillian LaFrance earned her second Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week award for the week of March 3rd thru the 9th. LaFrance hurled two complete game shutouts this past week, and posted an impressive 0.78 ERA over 18 innings pitched.
LaFrance, with two Pitcher of the Week awards this year, made it four awards in five weeks for pitching. Emily Burge (Jr. / Pace, Fla.) and Taren Walton (Sr. / Pensacola, Fla.) also have earned the award this season. The three Argo pitchers have combined for nine complete game shutouts in the 17 wins for UWF this season.
LaFrance, a Sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, struck out 24 batters in the 18 innings pitched this past week, while allowing only two earned runs on 11 hits and four walks. In addition, LaFrance went 6 for 9 at the plate, with three doubles, a home run, and seven runs batted in, during the two wins over Grace and Paine College.
Earlier this year, the Argos starting third baseman Nicky VanCamp (Sr./ Davenport, Ia.), earned a player of the week award for her offensive display of a pair of homeruns and six rbi's during a four game span. VanCamp has four home runs so far on the season. The four Argos have combined to earn five of the 10 awards so far this season from the GSC office.
