Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Senior pitcher Taren Walton, from Pensacola, pitched a four hit shutout, to improve her record to 9-5 on the season. The victory was the second this year for UWF over the top ranked team in the country. Walton's masterful pitching was her team leading 5th shutout of the season, and the 14th total for UWF pitchers this season. The Argos won 2-0 to improve to 28-16 on the season, and 8-5 in the GSC. Huntsville, ranked #1 in the nation, dropped to 36-6 on the year, and 7-4 in the GSC.

The Argos scored early, by putting one run on the board in the first inning. Heather Bell reached on an error, then Whitney Gay hit into a fielders choice to reach first base. Aimee McMillion would pinch run for Gay, and advance on a Taren Walton single. Then, cleanup hitter Nicky VanCamp drove in McMillion with a single for a 1-0 lead. UWF tacked on an insurance run in the third inning, when Whitney Gay blasted a home run.

Taren Walton pitched a masterpiece, allowing only one runner to reach second base, while striking out five batters. West Florida has now won two of three games vs. the top ranked Chargers this season, with the second game of the doubleheader to follow.
