PENSACOLA, Fla. - In game one of a scheduled doubleheader, the West Florida Argonauts came up short against the Titans of Wisconsin Oshkosh. The 4-1 loss dropped the Argos to 25-15 on the year, while the Titans improved to 6-4. The doubleheader marks the final games of the 2008 Spring Fling schedule at the UWF Complex, in which over 80 games have been played over the past 26 days on the home field of the Argonauts. Emily Burge pitched admirably for the Argos, with eight strikeouts, but came out on the short end to drop to 8-6 on the season
Wisconsin OshKosh scored a run in the first inning and then added one with a home run in the fourth inning. With the Argos behind 2-0, they scored a run in the fourth inning to close within 2-1. Caurie Miller executed a perfect squeeze bunt to score Dawnyele Stapleton from third base with the Argos lone run. UWF would strand eight runners in the game. Wisconsin OshKosh added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal the win in game one.
Heather Bell had three hits for UWF, and a pair of stolen bases; however, she would be stranded all three times. Melissa Chastang and Bell were on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the rally came up empty. Meanwhile, Julie Carroll had the only other hit for UWF in the contest.
Game two followed game one, with Jillian LaFrance on the mound for UWF, as the Argos try to get back on the winning track.
