UWF Drops 15-2 Decision to Split Series Against First Ranked UAH

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argonauts fell 15-2 in the sixth inning in the second game against first ranked UAH to split the series and put their record at 20-9, with a conference record of 2-2. With just eight hits against Alabama-Hunstville's fifteen, the Argos were unable to come back for the win. Pitcher Taren Walton was credited with the loss, dropping her record to 7-3.

West Florida was first to put numbers on the board in the bottom of the second inning, led off with a double from pitcher Taren Walton. Julie Carroll followed with a single, and an RBI single from right fielder Stephany Aguiliar scored Walton.

University of Alabama-Huntsville answered with two runs to take the lead after a leadoff single from Megan Blanchard. A double from Marilyn Cooper scored Blanchard, and Cooper then scored on a single from Kristina Prater. Amy Harris drew a walk with one out, but a double play executed by second basemen Whitney Gay and first basemen Carroll ended the inning for the Chargers.

UAH added more runs in the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles from Sydney Simpson and Whitney Schrimsher putting runners on board. After bringing in pitcher Emily Burge, a West Florida throwing error allowed pinch runner Alicia Caudle to score and Erin Duke to reach first. A ruled hit by pitch walk put Marilyn Cooper on first, and loaded the bases for Prater. Prater singled up the middle scoring Caudle and Duke, and leaving two runners on for Krystal Johnson. Johnson took one deep over the centerfield fence, scoring three runs and bringing the score to 8-1.

West Florida battled in the top of the sixth, but could only produce one run. Heather Bell singled to shallow left field and advanced to third on Gay's second double of the day. Caurie Miller picked up the RBI with a single to the right side, but was left on base at the end of the inning.

The final damage was done by UAH in the top of the sixth inning when let loose with seven hits that put seven more runs on the scoreboard. Miller led the Argos at the plate, going two-for-three on the game with a double and a single. Defensively, West Florida only had one error and the pitchers combined for six strikeouts.

West Florida continues GSC conference play tomorrow at 1PM CST against the University of North Alabama.
