PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argos put on a display in Thursday's game against Central Methodist with eleven runs on nine hits and no errors on the day. Taren Walton picked up the no-hitter win to improve to 7-2 on the season. The 11-0 win improved West Florida to 18-8 on the season.
West Florida took the lead early in the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kat Pursell got the bats going with a single into shallow right field, followed by Caurie Miller who was hit by a pitch. Nicky VanCamp dug in and roped her fifth homerun to left center field for 3 RBIs and an Argo lead.
Melissa Chastang led off the second with a walk, but was out on the fielder's choice by Heather Bell. Pursell again came through with a single right up the middle to put two on base and a runner in scoring position. Both Miller and VanCamp drew walks to score Heather Bell and add another to the West Florida score.
The third inning brought more runs for West Florida, hits started by Julie Carroll with a single to the left side. An error on the shortstop allowed Stephany Aguiliar to reach and advance Carroll, but Carroll was thrown out at third on fielder's choice hit by Chastang. Dawnyele Stapleton came in to slice a single that loaded the bases for Pursell. Pursell came through with a single for the third time in the game to score Aguiliar. Miller reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and then advanced on the throw, scoring Chastang and Stapleton before the inning ended.
The Argos clinched the victory with three runs in the fourth inning. Carroll had her second single of the game to lead off the inning. Amie McMillion entered the game and reached on a fielder's choice that also advanced Carroll. Chastang sent a single up the middle and loaded the bases. Carroll scored on a wild pitch to Stapleton and McMillion scored on a 4-3 groundout by Stapleton. Another 4-3 groundout scored Chastang to make the final score 11-0.
