PENSACOLA, Fla. - Natalie Manis was 3-4 with an RBI, but it was not enough as West Florida dropped their sixth straight game with a 6-3 loss to Central Missouri State on Monday at the UWF Softball Complex. West Florida falls to 7-8 with the loss. Central Missouri improves to 8-4.
West Florida scored first in the bottom of the second. After Manis singled to center, she was pinch ran for by Heather Bell. Lindsay Warrenfeltz sacrificed Bell to second. Bell then advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch to give West Florida a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Central Missouri answered with three runs in the top of the third off of Argonaut starter Emily Burge. With two outs and runners at first and second, Miranda Myer doubled to right center to bring home both runners. Myer scored on an RBI single by Kym Caskey to give the Jennies a 3-1 lead.
West Florida immediately tied the game in the bottom of the third. West Florida put together four consecutive singles, including RBI singles by Tabitha Hairelson and Natalie Manis. Meredith Muenks relieved Central Missouri starter DeAnna McQueen with runners at second and third with one out and got out of the jam without any further damage.
Central Missouri retook the lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Lauren Young. The Jennies added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Myer, and an RBI infield single by Megan Hollenbach.
Muenks (3-1) earned the victory in relief after limiting the Argonauts to three hits over 4 2/3 innings. Burge (5-6) allowed six runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out six in a complete game performance.
