         <description><![CDATA[UWF third basemen Nicky VanCamp has been selected for the 2008 Daktronics All-South Region Second Team for her contribution to West Florida's season. The senior from Davenport, Iowa has had quite the two-year stint under Head Coach Tami Cyr, earning several awards in her final season with the Argos. In addition to her All-South recognition, VanCamp was named to the All-GSC First Team and captured Player of the Week earnings twice in 2008. She was also named to the NCAA South Region Tournament team in recognition of her play in Miami Shores.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[In a pitching dual between the Argos Jillian LaFrance and Tampa's Deanna Henriott, hits were hard to come by, as the two teams played in an elimination game. Then, it was a home run, and a lightning scare that took the highlights of the day. The two pitchers had combined for 38 wins this season, and were on their games in the pressure situation. Through the first 4 &frac12; innings, only three hits from the two teams combined were recorded against the starting pitchers.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[West Florida was defeated by Saint Leo University on Thursday afternoon, 2-0. Pitcher Taren Walton suffered the loss giving up seven hits, striking out five Lions. Both runs scored by Saint Leo were unearned, as both runners scored on fielding errors. The Argonauts managed just three hits in the loss, as Nicky VanCamp was responsible for two. Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year winner Ashley Urbanik was the winning pitcher striking out twelve Argos.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The West Florida Softball team captured a 2-1 victory in the opening round of the NCAA South Regional Tournament. Jillian LaFrance was the winning pitcher and delivered the game winning single as well. The Argos will play tomorrow in round two against St. Leo at 4:00 pm (3:00 pm CT) in Miami Shores, Fla. St. Leo defeated Valdosta State 3-2 in the opening game of the tournament in 8 innings. The game will be broadcast on stretch internet, which is available on goargos.com, and live stats will also be available at goargos.com on the softball home page.]]></description>

UWF is reaching the tournament for the first time in two years. "We didn't take it for granted, (going to the regional tournament) all those years in a row, but having those two years off, we definitely appreciate it more," UWF softball coach Tami Cyr said. "It's a tough road, we had to beat a lot of good teams to get here and I'm really proud of the girls."]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[UWF lost their second game of the GSC Championship tournament to UNA on Saturday evening, preventing any further advance in the tournament. UNA took control of the bats and did not let up despite UWF attempts to catch up. Pitcher Emily Burge got the start and the loss, and was relieved by Jillian LaFrance in the bottom of the first inning. Shortstop Caurie Miller was responsible for West Florida's only two runs with a homerun in the top of the second inning. Heather Bell was two-for-four, and Burge had a double, proving to be the only West Florida player to have hits in all three games.]]></description>

West Florida faced GSC East rival UAH in the winner's bracket on Saturday afternoon. Pitcher Taren Walton got the start against UAH, and suffered the loss, giving up just four hits. Walton struck out five, but put seven runners on base due to walks. West Florida matched Alabama-Huntsville's four hits but was unable to execute to score the runs.          <description><![CDATA[For the second time this season, West Florida defeated Henderson State University allowing them to score just one run. Previously, Jillian LaFrance led the Argos to a 6-1 victory in the GSC Crossover in Decatur, Alabama. Despite losing a day of play due to inclement weather, LaFrance again defeated the Lady Reddies 8-1 in the first round of the GSC Championship Tournament in South Haven, Mississippi. LaFrance struck out six batters and allowed just four hits against the Reddies. Emily Burge led at the plate with a three-for-four outing, including two singles and a homerun. Also with a big day at the plate was slugger Nicky VanCamp, hitting her 11th and 12th homeruns of the season against HSU.]]></description>

University of Alabama-Huntsville's Alex Lewis took the Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year awards for the East Division, while Head Coach Les Stuedeman was named Coach of the Year.
