Milton Earns First Head Coaching Position

March 21, 2007

PENSACOLA, Fla. - After serving seven years as an assistant coach to Bill Elliott and the West Florida men's soccer team, Scottie Milton (Pensacola, Fla./Woodham HS) has earned his first head coaching opportunity. On Wednesday, Milton was named the new head coach of the men's and women's soccer teams at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga.

"I am very excited about this opportunity, and I am ready to take on new challenges," said Milton. "The Pensacola area has always been home to me, but I am ready to move on."

Last season, Milton helped coach West Florida to a Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II South Region title. The Argonauts advanced to play in the NCAA Division II National Semifinal in Pensacola. During Milton's seven year tenure, West Florida totaled an 85-27-9 record (2000-06) with three conference championships and one regional title.

Milton worked with the goalkeepers while assisting with the overall soccer operations. West Florida posted a 1.18 goals against average during Milton's season seasons. Two goalkeepers, Nic Stankov and Juan Carlos Garcia, earned all conference honors under Milton's tutelage. Matt Gascoigne finished his career last season with the second-lowest goals against average in school history.

"Scottie put in a lot of years here as an assistant coach, and he is more than qualified," said West Florida head coach Bill Elliott. "When you have an assistant who has done a good job, their head coaching opportunity will come in a matter of time."

Andrew College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Last season, the men's team finished with a 6-9-3 record, while the women posted a 7-10-1 mark.

"I look forward to bringing an overall sense of professionalism," said Milton. "I want to use everything that I have learned from working with Bill (Elliott) and take it with me."

Prior to West Florida, Milton helped lead Woodham High School to a 1991 4A State Championship while earning all-state honors as a goalkeeper. He moved on to the University of Mobile where he spearheaded the Rams defense. Mobile was ranked nationally in each of Milton's four seasons, and the Rams finished as the national runner-up in 1994. After graduating from Mobile, Milton played professionally with the Mobile Revelers and the Pensacola Barracudas.

"We have worked together for a long time and his departure will be like when one of our captains finishes his playing career and graduates, said Elliott."
