PENSACOLA, Fla. - In the final match of the regular season West Florida (14-2-0) continued to pick up goals and shut down their opponents attack as they blanked their NAIA foes, Thomas University (4-11-1), 3-0 Friday night at the UWF Sports Complex. On senior night, in her final regular season home fixture Brandi Adams rose to the occasion striking two goal from out side the 18-yard box.
Before the senior netted either of her goals, Dernelle Mascall increased her single season record to 22 when took a Sheka Codner pass and out ran the Nighthawks defense before pushing the ball past the keeper. The goal in the 16th minute was Mascall's 10th game winning goal of the season.
Ten minutes later Adams picked up her first of the match. The senior from Gulf Breeze received a pass from Mascall at the top of the box and, with the use of some good footwork, freed herself from the defense before rifling a shot off the finger tips of the out stretched keeper.
West Florida would take the 3-0 lead into the break after allowing only one shot in the half. The Argonauts defense, anchored by senior Marie Hastings, would tighten up in the second half as they did not allow a shot in the final 45 minutes.
Adams would finish the scoring in the 61st minute when she once again received a Mascall pass nailed a shot from the outside of the box for her fifth goal of the season.
