PACE, Fla. - The University of West Florida women's golf team started the 2008 fall season at the Bubba Watson Invitational at Stonebrook Golf Club on Monday, and the Argonauts stand in second place heading into the final round. UWF shot a 321 in the first round, with Natalia Espinosa (Bogota, Colombia) leading the way in fifth place with a six-over 78. Gulf South Conference rival Montevallo leads by seven strokes at 314.
Espinosa was one of six golfers to shoot under 80, and Bhavna Shetty (Mysore, India), Amanda de la Cruz (Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic High School), and Rachel Williams (Ormond Beach, Fla.) were right behind her with 80, 81, and 82 respectively. Shetty is in a tie for seventh place, while de la Cruz is tied for 14th and Williams tied for 18th. Tara Steakin (Wellington, Fla.) finished with a 90, and Meghan Gulliksen (Daytona Beach, Fla.) carded 82 as an individual.
