PACE, Fla. - After starting the day with a nine-stroke lead, top-ranked Florida Southern strengthened their hold atop the standings after the second round of the NCAA Division II National Championships. The event is being held at the Par 72, 6,022 yard Stonebrook Golf Club.
Florida Southern posted the lowest round for the second straight day. The Mocs shot a 296 and continue to lead the eight-team field with 17-over 593 (297-296). Despite shaving six strokes off of their first round total, second-ranked Rollins is 13 strokes out of the lead with a 30-over 606 (306-300). Sixth-ranked Ferris State improved their second round total by 10 strokes and remain in third place with a 42-over 618 (314-304).
Ninth-ranked Drury recorded the biggest improvement of the second round. The Panthers dropped 13 strokes off of their first round total to move to fourth place with a 49-over 625 (319-306). After Drury, there is a three-team tie for fifth place. Twenty-seventh ranked North Dakota (316-315), 14th ranked Northeastern State (321-310) and 13th ranked Tarleton State (317-314) ended the second round with a 55-over 631. Truman State rounds out the field with an 87-over 663 (330-333).
In the individual standings, there is a two-way tie atop the leader board. Florida Southern's Lindsey Bergeon and Daniela Iacobelli of Florida Tech share the lead after two rounds with a two-over 146. After both golfers shot a 72 on Wednesday, Bergeon and Iacobelli each shot a second round 74.
Florida Southern's Heather Burgner stands in third place with a three-over 147 (75-72). Tonya Choate of Drury is one stroke behind in fourth place with a four-over 148 (76-72). Burgner and Choate's 72 were the lowest scores of the second round. Tracy Puckering, an individual representing Grand Valley State, rounds out the top five with a five-over 149. Nova Southeastern's Maria Garcia Austt, who held the lead after the first round, is in a five-way tie for sixth place at six-over.
