West Florida Collects Third Championship of the Season

TAMARAC, Fla. - West Florida had an amazing final round today by firing a 300 to finish with a 613 for the tournament over 36 holes. The Argonauts were four strokes behind NJCAA second ranked Dayton Beach Community College after round one yesterday. They leapfrogged two other teams, second ranked Lynn and fourth ranked Nova Southeastern, to win the title.

West Florida finished four shots up on Dayton Beach CC at 317. Nova Southeastern finished with a 626, and Lynn ended with a 629. Seventh ranked Barry shot a 632, and ninth ranked Newberry fired a 648. Thirteenth ranked Pfeiffer shot a 650, and eighth ranked Florida Gulf Coast shot a 654. Nine of the 12 teams competing were nationally ranked within their affiliation.

Clara Fornella and Natalia Espinosa finished in a tie for fourth. Fornella (77, 75) and Espinosa (80, 72) shot a 152, +8. Vicky Jackson ended in a tie for ninth with a 154, +10 (78, 76). Sarah Nicholson was 11th with a 155, +11 (78, 77). Rachel Christ finished in a tie for 36th with a 165, +21 (83, 82).

Barry's RemiJin Camping won a playoff to take home medalist honors. She shot a 150, +6 (77, 73). The title was UWF's third of the season. Other tournament championships include the Annual Flagler College Fall Slam Invitational on October 23-24, and the Lady Falcon Invitational on February 19-20.

The Nova Southeastern Spring Classic was played at the par 72, 6,090 yard Woodmont Country Club - Cypress Golf Course in Tamarac, Fla. West Florida plays at the Southern Mississippi Lady Eagle Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. on April 2-3.
