TAMARAC, Fla. - West Florida is four strokes off leader Dayton Beach Community College after the first round with one to go at the Nova Southeastern Spring Classic in Tamarac, Fla. The classic is being hosted by the par 72, 6,090 yard Woodmont Country Club - Cypress Golf Course.
The NJCAA's second ranked Dayton Beach CC is the overall leader with a 309. NCAA II sixth ranked UWF has a 313 for fourth place. Fourth ranked Nova Southeastern has a 310, while second ranked Lynn shot a 311. The Argonauts have a one stroke lead over seventh ranked Barry at 314. The tournament also consists of three other nationally ranked teams in the NCAA II. Thirteenth ranked Pfeiffer is in sixth with a 325. Eighth ranked Florida Gulf Coast is seventh with a 326.
Clara Fornella (Montevideo, Uruguay) is pacing UWF with a 77, +5 (39-38). She is tied for eighth. Sarah Nicholson (Cedar Falls, Iowa / Cedar Falls HS) and Vicky Jackson (Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. / Ft. Walton Beach HS) are tied for 13th with a 78, +6 (39-39). Natalia Espinosa (Bogota, Colombia) shot an 80, +8 (41-39), and is tied for 19th. Rachel Christ (Charlotte, N.C. / Univ. of Charlotte) is in a tie for 30th with an 83, +11 (39-44). Brittany Beltran of Pfeiffer and Lina Bjorklund of Nova Southeastern are in a tie for first place.
