GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of West Florida Women's Golf team finished round one of the Gainesville Shootout with the sixth best team score out of the 15 teams participating. Natalia Espinosa shot a first round score of 75, to tie for eighth best individually.
West Florida's team score of 311 trailed Texas State University by 10 strokes. The tournament includes predominately Division I schools, and the Argos trailed Illinios and Michigan by only a couple strokes, and were only three strokes out of a tie for second place, which was shared by Texas A&M CC and Illinois State.
Following Espinosa, was Bhavna Shetty with a round of 76 to tie for 13th best. Meanwhile, Meaghan Gulliksen and Rachel Christ were tied for 38th, with a round of 80. Tara Steakin finished the first round with an 84, and was tied for 61st place. 87 golfers from 15 teams teed off on the 5,907 yard, par 70 Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida.
Nicole Schacher, of the Florida Gators, and Lindsay Davis, of the Michigan Wolverines, tied for the best round, with an even par 70. The tournament continues on Friday and Saturday, for a three day total of 54 holes.
