LAKELAND, Fla. - West Florida jumped three spots on the final day to finish 6th best of the 16 teams in the tournament in Lakeland, Florida, on Tuesday. The Argos shot a team score of 310 on the final day, after shooting a 320 and 323 during the first two rounds. Bhavna Shetty finished with an outstanding third round, as she scored an even par 72, to move up to 24th place overall. Natalia Espinosa shot a third round 79 and her total score of 236, was tied for 32nd place.
Florida Southern won the tournament with a team score of 893, while Rollins finished second with a score of 900. Both schools broke the tournament record of 901, set by Rollins in 2005. The challenging course produced only two individual rounds lower than par. Sandra Changkija recorded a 71 during the second round. Maria Garcia Austt equally that score of 71 in the final round. Meanwhile, UWF's Bhavna Shetty's score of 72 in the final round, was only one stroke away from tying for the tournament's best round.
The Argonauts team score of 953, was three strokes better than Northern Kentucky, to move into 6th place, after being tied for 9th place going into the final round. Nova Southeastern finished third with a score of 903, while Barry finished fourth with a score of 905. Lynn was fifth best with a team score of 928. Sixteen teams completed play on the 5, 997 yard par 72 Cleveland Heights Golf Club, in Lakeland, Florida.
Meaghan Gulliksen finished the tournament with a final round 80, to score a 242, which tied for 41st place. Rachel Christ shot a final round 79, to move into 45th place, with a total score of 245. The Argos' Tara Steakin finished with a final round 83 to finish tied for 55th place of the 80 golfers in the tournament, with a total score of 251.
Marianne Andersson of Florida Southern College was the overall individual champion with a 77-73-72 set of scores for a six over par total of 222. Three golfers tied with a 223 score, including Changkija of Nova Southeastern, along with Florida Southern's Heather Burgner, and Rollins College top golfer Surita Risseeuw.
