KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - The West Florida Women's Golf team started day two in fifth place and held their ground with another solid performance. Meanwhile, Bhavna Shetty had the second best round on day one, but slipped just slightly to 9th place after the final round. Shetty was one of only five golfers to shoot par for a single round at the Cougar Point Golf Club.
Rachel Christ put together two consistent rounds of 81 and 83 for a total of 164 to finish 31st. Meanwhile, Natalia Espinosa finished 39th overall with rounds of 83 and 84 for a 167. Meaghan Gulliksen and Tara Steakin tied for 51st place with a two round total of 171. 18 teams and 90 individual golfers competed on the 5,800 yard par 72 course.
The top-ranked Florida Southern women's golf team solidified its top ranking by winning the 2008 Tusculum College/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate this weekend at the Cougar Point Golf Club. Florida Southern, the defending NCAA Division II national champion, placed four players in the top 20, including three in the top seven.
The Mocs finished with a 36-hole total of 599, including Sunday's 305, the lowest final round score of the day. Nova Southeastern finished second with 605, led by tournament medalist Maria Garcia Austt, who shot 73-74=147, edging out Florida Southern's Marianne Andersson (71-77=148) by one shot.
Florida Southern's Lindsey Bergeon and Kim Ulander were two of five players tied for third at 149. Joining the Florida Southern duo at 149 were Maha Haddioui (Lynn), Laura Fourdraine (Rollins) and Taylor Collins (Nova Southeastern).
Rollins finished third in the team competition with 610, followed by Lynn (633), West Florida (648), Berry (655), Savannah College of Art and Design (658), Pfeiffer (658), Belmont Abbey (660), Wingate (668), Newberry (682), Armstrong Atlantic (687), Lenoir-Rhyne (688), Tusculum (697), Limestone (709), Mount Olive (732), Lincoln Memorial (738) and UNC Pembroke (759).
