BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Juniors Jessica Young (Hillsboro, Ala./Wallace-Hanceville CC) and Victoria Hunt (Roxie, Miss./Pensacola Junior College) were named to the GSC Women's Basketball Top Newcomers team in the Pre-Season release, as it was announced on Thursday. Both women have playing experience at local Pensacola Junior College, though Young spent her sophomore season at Wallace-Hanceville CC.
Hunt, a 5-8 guard, was a All-Panhandle first team selection at PJC, averaged 13 points per game. Young averaged 16 points and 10 assists per game at Wallace-Hanceville, shooting an impressive 60% from the field. Standing at 5-11, the post player earned all-conference first team and All-American honorable mention accolades for her performance last season.
With West Georgia getting the votes as the GSC East Division leader, West Florida checks in a number five in the GSC pre-season polls. Delta State is expected to rule the West Division, and is tabbed to capture the overall GSC Championship.
