PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF Women's Basketball schedule is set for the upcoming year, with 14 home contests. The Argos will open with their annual "Tip-Off Classic," in the UWF Fieldhouse on November 16th and 17th. Head Coach Shannan Bergen, who begins her 9th season as the Argos leader, claimed "this is a challenging schedule, but not overwhelming, and I believe we have the talent to achieve great success this season."
The Argos opening opponents in the tip-off classic are Florida Southern and Ouachita Baptist. The team will then travel to Russellville, Arkansas for a Thanksgiving tournament that includes a game against Arkansas Tech, who was ranked in the top 20 during last season. UWF will host a "Holiday Classic" on December 29th and 30th, in which they will play games against Henderson State and Arkansas-Monticello.
On January 2nd, Southern Connecticut State, the reigning National Champions, will come to the UWF Fieldhouse for a 4:30 PM tip-off against the Argos. Southern Connecticut State will also play in the UWF Fieldhouse on January 1st against Delta State (ranked as high as 5th last year), in a neutral site contest hosted by the University of West Florida.
The Argos will host rival Valdosta State on February 2nd, in a doubleheader with the Men's teams. UWF and Valdosta State have been some combination of 1st and 2nd in the Gulf South East Division for three of the last five years, and this game could have first place implications as well. Overall, the conference is well balanced, and each Divisional Opponent will be played at home and on the road.
The Argos conclude their home schedule with West Alabama visiting the Fieldhouse on February 25th. The Conference Tournament is set for March 5th - 8th in Southaven, Mississippi. The complete schedule is available on the Women's Basketball link on goargos.com
