PENSACOLA, Fla. - As the second half of the Gulf South Conference season begins, West Florida will look to avenge one of their three conference losses. On Saturday, West Florida (10-11, 3-3 GSC) will host North Alabama (10-11, 3-3 GSC) at the UWF Field House. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
North Alabama earned a 71-64 win on Jan. 15 in Florence, Ala. Amber Rutherford scored a game-high 29 points to lead North Alabama. It was the most points scored by an individual player against West Florida this season. Abena Bosia (Orlando, Fla./Columbus State) finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
West Florida is coming off a 49-32 loss last Saturday against Valdosta State. Dominique Boykins (Houston, Texas/North Shore HS) led West Florida with nine points and eight rebounds. Laura Davis (Spanish Fort, Ala./Univ. of Mobile) leads West Florida with 9.9 points per game. Davis is second in the conference and 16th in the nation with a 43.5 three-point field goal percentage. Bosia is 43rd in the nation with 9.1 rebounds per game.
Tandra Inmon's potential game-winning three-point field goal was off the mark as North Alabama dropped a 65-63 decision last Saturday against Alabama-Huntsville. Rutherford led the Lions with 15 points, while Shay Ashford recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. North Alabama leads the conference and is 12th in the nation, shooting 76 percent from the free throw line.
