PENSACOLA, Fla. - Karmeshia Easley (Mobile, Ala./Spring Hill College) scored a career-high 19 points to help lead West Florida to a 49-35 win over West Georgia Saturday at the UWF Field House. West Florida (8-8, 1-0 GSC) won their 21st consecutive home game against a Gulf South Conference opponent. West Georgia (8-8, 0-1 GSC) lost their 10th consecutive game in Pensacola.
After both teams combined to only score 38 first half points, West Florida took command of the game in the second half. Tiffany Scott's (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Seminole CC) field goal with 14:28 remaining gave West Florida a lead they would not relinquish. West Florida used a 10-2 run midway through the half to post a 38-29 lead at the 9:06 mark. Easley scored eight of the 10 points during the run. The Argonauts defense limited West Georgia to 16 second half points, including just six points over the final 10 minutes. The win marked the second time this season that West Florida had allowed less than 40 points in a game. West Florida defeated Barry, 61-34, on Nov. 24.
Offense was at a premium in the first half as both team struggled to score. Seven minutes elapsed between West Georgia's Valeisa Crenshaw's jump shot at the 10:05 mark and teammate Erica McCoy's field goal with 3:05 remaining in the half. West Florida went on a 6-0 run over the final 3:05 to go into the halftime tied at 19.
Along with Easley's game-high 19 points, Dominique Boykins (Houston, Texas/North Shore HS) came off the bench to record 10 points. Abena Bosia (Orlando, Fla./Columbus State) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Scott collected a career-high nine rebounds. Rita Grayson led West Georgia with 10 points.
