PENSACOLA, Fla. - Kate Scrader scored a game-high 22 points as 16th ranked Florida Gulf Coast remained undefeated on the season with an 87-57 win over West Florida Wednesday night at the UWF Field House. West Florida (7-8) dropped their fourth straight game, while Florida Gulf Coast (17-0) improved to 4-0 all-time against West Florida.
With the score tied at eight early in the first half, Florida Gulf Coast used a 15-2 run to open up a 23-10 lead. An Abena Bosia (Orlando, Fla./Columbus State) lay up with 6:30 remaining in the first half cut the West Florida deficit to nine. However, Florida Gulf Coast went on a 12-3 run over a five minute span to post a 42-24 advantage. The Eagles settled for a 15-point halftime lead.
Florida Gulf Coast continued to build on their lead in the second half as the Eagles led by as many as 35. After shooting 54 percent in the first half, West Florida only shot 26 percent from the field in the second half. Florida Gulf Coast shot 50 percent for the game. It was the second time this season that Florida Gulf Coast had defeated West Florida. The Eagles posted a 69-57 win in the Argonauts season opener on Nov. 16.
Karmeshia Easley (Mobile, Ala./Spring Hill College) led West Florida with 11 points and six assists. Tara Russ (Lake Park, Fla./ Kings Academy) added 10 points. Bosia collected a game-high 11 rebounds. Along with Scrader's 22 points, Steffi Sorensen added 18 points for Florida Gulf Coast.
