ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - For the sixth consecutive year, West Florida will play for a chance at the Gulf South Conference Men's Tennis title. Playing in their second match on Saturday, top-ranked West Florida (23-2) rolled past 15th ranked Delta State (13-7) 5-0 in the semifinals of the Carpet One/GSC Men's Tennis Tournament. West Florida will try to win their third straight GSC title against fourth-ranked Valdosta State on Sunday.
West Florida and Delta State were involved in three competitively played doubles match, but West Florida won all three matches. Dante Bottini (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Nicolas Barrientos (Cali, Colombia) won their singles matches in straight sets to end the match early.
West Florida will attempt to win their ninth GSC title and third straight on Sunday. This will be the sixth consecutive year that West Florida and Valdosta State will meet for the GSC Championship. West Florida is 5-1 against Valdosta State in the finals since 2002, with Valdosta State's lone victory in 2004. The championship match will begin at 9 a.m. CST.
