MONTGOMERY, Ala. The third ranked West Florida Men's Tennis Team (20-3, 6-0 GSC) kicked off the Gulf South Conference Championship with a victory. The Argonauts defeated Christian Brothers (2-11, 0-3 GSC) 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Argonauts entered the tournament as the first seeded, after being declared the regular conference season champion. The Argonauts did not have much trouble to blank the Bucs this Saturday, April 19th at the Lagoon Park and O'Conner Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala. The Argonauts earned the 3-0 lead after the doubles action, and only needed a couple more matches to finish the match at 5-0.
With the win, the Argonauts posted earned its 20th win of the season and now holds a 20-3 overall record. The Argos advanced to the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament against all-time rival second ranked Valdosta State (10-4, 1-1). The Argonauts have fallen to the Blazers in the final of last year's tournament. However this year, the Argonauts has defeated the Blazers during the regular season with a 5-4 score. The match will be played at the same site located in Montgomery, Ala. this Friday, April 19, 2008 at 2:00p.m. CT.
