Melbourne, Fla. The third ranked, West Florida (5-1) earned its fifth straight victory of the season by defeating unranked Florida Tech (4-5) on Saturday. The Argonauts did not drop a single match to defeat the Panthers 9-0.

The Argonauts swept the doubles play with three 8-5 wins. In the first doubles position, Carlos Zamora (freshman/Copenhagen, Denmark) and Eduardo Cavasotti (senior/Florianopolis, Brazil) defeated Joel Zahlan and Drew Hollis. In the second doubles spot, Nicolas Barrientos (senior/Cali, Colombia) and Patrick Batman (sophomore/Apopka, Fla.) beat the duo formed by Panthers Yan Carlo Rodriguez and James McLane. Luiz Bernardi (senior/Campinas, Brazil) and Jose Ycaza (junior/ Guayaquil, Ecuador) defeated Panthers David Fowler and Artie Yentumi.. After the doubles play, the Argonauts had a 3-0 lead.

In the singles action, the Argonauts also showed to be superior to Panthers, and won every single match in straight sets. Playing in the first position, 23rd ranked Cavasotti defeated James McLane 6-4, 7-6(0). 17th ranked, Barrientos did not drop a single game to roll over Joel Zahlan 6-0, 6-0 in the second position. Bernardi easily defeated Panther David Fowler 6-3, 6-0. In the fourth position, Zamora beat D. J. Pate with a 7-5, 6-2 score. In the fifth spot, Ycaza defeated his opponent without dropping mora than four games, when he beat Yan Carlo Rodriguez 6-2, 6-2. In the sixth spot Batman dropped a single game to defeat Panther Alfonso Duarte 6-1, 6-0, to give the Argonauts the final score of 9-0.

The Argonauts earned the fifth win of the season and improved its record to 5-1. The Argonauts will return to action Sunday, March 2nd, 2008, when they face seventh ranked Barry in Winter Park, Fla. at 10:00a.m. This will be the last match played on a four-day road trip to the Orlando area.
