West Florida Wins Seventh Consecutive Road Match

Oct. 12, 2007

Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - West Florida (12-1-0, 4-0-0 GSC) scored three times within the first ten minutes as they rolled to a 4-1 victory over Alabama-Huntsville (5-7-0, 0-3-0 GSC) Sunday afternoon at Charger Field, for their seventh-consecutive road win tying a single season school record.

The Argonauts netted their first goal just two-and-a-half minutes into the match coming off a set play. Jay Mainville sent the ball into the box and Keith Savage was on the back posted to direct the ball past the keeper.

Savage struck again three-and-a-half minutes later when he stolen the ball for the Chargers defense inside the box and quickly tallied his 11th goal of the season. The goal was the senior's 44th goal of his career placing him in a tying for third in school history.

In the ninth minute it was Jimmy McHenry that took a long pass down the line from Matt Williams, carried the ball into the box and finished his 11th goal and 28th point of the season.

West Florida added one more goal before the break when Mainville completed the set play taken by McHenry, providing West Florida with a 4-0 half time lead. The assist also gives McHenry a tie for the team lead in points with 28.

The Argonauts played a defensive second half holding on to their significant lead. The Chargers only goal of the match came on a penalty kick in the second half ending Juan Garcia's scoreless streak at 453 minutes. It was the first time in three attempts that an opponent score on a penalty kick this season.

It was the first time this season the Argonauts allowed a play in Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts have outscored their foes 44-9 this season. If West Florida can hold their remaining opponent to 11 or fewer goals they will set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a season, which was set last season at 20. The Argonauts also currently have a 0.69 goals-against-average this season and the school record was also set last season at 0.80.

Up next for the Argonauts is Delta State on Sunday afternoon. West Florida can tie a single season school record with 13-consecutive wins with a victory over the Statesmen. "Live Stats" will be available on the Men's Soccer home page.
