Former Argos Star Keith Savage with First Professional Start

Former Argonaut and Gulf South Conference standout Keith Savage, had an assist in his first start as a professional soccer player. His team, Chivas USA fell short after mounting a spirited second-half comeback. Chivas USA came into Saturday's match against Columbus having never lost in Crew Stadium, and despite going down by two goals midway through the second half, that record seemed to still be intact when the visitors stormed back to tie the game at 3-3.

The Gulf South Conference Announced the All-Academic Teams for Fall Sports

The Gulf South Conference announced the fall sport All-Academic First Team selections, and Honor Roll selections for Football, Soccer, Volleyball, and Cross Country. The Argonauts earned six first team selections, and 37 other earned honor roll selections. West Florida was third in the conference with the 43 selections. Only Harding (73), and Ouachita Baptist (50) had more honorees, and both of those schools have football. In fact, Harding had 30 football players, and Ouachita Baptist had 10 football players, so excluding football, the Argonauts tied with Harding for the top total of 43 honorees.

Team ChivasUSA picked Gulf Breeze native, and UWF Soccer Standout Keith Savage, with the first pick in the fourth round of the 2008 MLS superdraft, on Friday afternoon. The draft which took place at the Baltimore Convention Center picks the top players in the world, and team ChivasUSA traded for pick 43 with the San Jose Earthquakes, in order to take the 6-2, 185 lb, midfielder/forward.

UWF Men's Soccer Earns Two All-American Selections

Despite coming up short in the NCAA Division II tournament, the University of West Florida's men soccer team was recently honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, with two All-American selections. Senior striker Jimmy McHenry garnered first team honors, while teammate Juan Garcia earned third team honors. McHenry and Garcia were a large part of a team record 18 straight wins this season, and a team ranking as high as third in the nation, going into the post-season.

UWF Men's Soccer Places Four Members on the Daktronics All-Region Team

The Men's Soccer team, which was ranked 3rd in the nation for much of the season, graduates a sensational senior class this year. Three of those seniors finished their careers by being honored as All-Region Selections. Defender Okang Nkosi, and forward Jimmy McHenry were named to the first team, along with junior goalkeeper Juan Garcia. Senior Midfielder Nick Mroczkowski earned second team nomination. The four Argonauts represented the most from any team in the region to earn the All-Region accolades.

For third time in as many weeks West Florida (18-2-0) was facing a familiar foe in the form of Montevallo (17-3-1), however, unlike the previous matches the Falcons would get the best for the Argonauts, as they held on for a 2-1 victory Friday night at the UWF Sports Complex during the first round of the NCAA tournament.

UWF Men's Soccer to Host First Round National Tournament Event

The West Florida men's soccer team is the top seed in the South Region of the 2007 NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Argonauts (14-1) are riding a 14 match win streak, and will play conference rival Montevallo for the third time in 15 days. West Florida must pull off the hat trick of beating Montevallo three times, in order to advance to the regional finals. Tampa (11-3) and Lynn (14-2-1) are the other two teams competing in the South Region, here in Pensacola this next weekend.

No. 3 West Florida (18-1-0) netted two late goals against rival No. 18 Montevallo (16-3-1) en route to becoming the first team in over a decade to repeat as Gulf Couth Conference Champions Sunday afternoon at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla. The Argonauts extended their winning streak to 18 games in the physical match against a team they defeat a week ago, 3-2. It is the fifth conference title in school history.

The University of West Florida is bracing for a weekend of superb athletic events. The Men's and Women's Soccer teams are hosting the Gulf South Conference Championships here in Pensacola, and both teams are the #1 seeds. The Men are ranked 3rd in the nation, while the women are 9th in the nation. Meanwhile, the 25th ranked Volleyball team is hosting West Alabama Friday night for Senior Night, and the team has already set school records for most overall wins and conference wins in a season. Saturday morning, the men's and women's Cross Country teams are in Huntsville, Alabama to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships.

The 13th ranked women's soccer team with play first tonight with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. and the 3rd ranked men's team will take on the 17th ranked Falcons following the conclusion of the first fixture.

Third ranked West Florida (14-1-0) had no problems with the wet turf as they controled the pace of the match and cruised to a 6-0 win over Spring Hill (3-12-2) Friday night at the UWF Sports Complex.

The Argonauts three leading scorers all increased their point totals in the match, Keith Savage picked up a pair of goals, Jimmy McHenry had a goal and two assists and Rafael Segal scored once.

Senior captain Nick Mroczkowski along with junior Matt Brooks both picked up their first goal as an Argonaut.
