West Florida Men's Golf is the Top Team in Division II Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches Poll

Nov. 14, 2007

NEW YORK, NY - The final Golf World/NIKE Golf Division II Coaches' Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, NIKE Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Despite earning only two of the 12 first-place votes, West Florida made the jump into the top spot of the poll.

The Argonauts finished their fall season with a fourth place finish at the NSU Sharks Invitational (Oct. 15-16), but captured the team title at a Division I event, The McLaughlin (Sept. 21-22). Five other squads earned first-place votes, including No. 2 St. Edward's, the previous number one team. Rounding out the top-five are Nova Southeastern (No. 3), Sonoma State (No. 4) and Florida Southern (No. 5).

Kyle Scott was the overall champion at 10 under par, in the McLaughlin. In that event, The West Florida Men's Golf team out-shot 17 teams (mostly Division I) to prove that they are one of the top teams in the country. The Argos went into the third and final round tied with St. John's and pulled out a two stroke team victory, as Tobias Rosendahl tied St. John's Mike Ballo Jr. with the best score (-4) in round three. Rosendahl's final round of 66, put him in second place overall behind teammate Kyle Scott. Scott shot a -2 on the final round (68) to out perform St. John's second best scorer to help seal the victory.

In addition, Rosendahl and Scott finished 5th and 6th Individually, at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational Tournament hosted by Columbus State University. The course was played on the Bull Creek West Course in Midland, Ga. West Florida finished 2nd out of 18 teams, while Nova Southeastern won the tournament just three strokes ahead of the Argonauts.

The top seven teams remain the same but there is one new school in the top-10: CSU-Stanislaus (T-8). The Warriors finished second in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Invitational to close out their fall campaign.Barry University is the sixth place team, and they received one first place vote, while USC-Aiken is seventh, with a tie for 8th place with Chico State and CSU-Stanislaus. Western Washington rounds out the top ten. Gulf South Conference rival Valdosta State is ranked 14th, while North Alabama is the only other GSC school in the ranking at 17th.
