WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After a successful season in which West Florida won three team titles, including their eighth Gulf South Conference championship, three Argonauts were named to the Division II Ping All-America Team. Matthew Galloway (Valrico, Fla.) earned first team honors, while Federico Damus (Posadas, Argentina) and David Lingmerth (Tranas, Sweden) earned third team accolades.
Galloway is the fifth West Florida men's golfer to earn Division II PING All-America First Team honors. He earned his second consecutive All-Gulf South Conference selection this past season after posting a 71.72 scoring average, third-best in the nation. His scoring average also broke the single-season West Florida record. Galloway participated in 12 tournaments and posted seven finishes in the top eight. His round of 66 at the SoCal Intercollegiate was tied for the second-best round in school history.
Damus earned his first All-GSC First Team selection after finishing with the fourth-best single-season scoring average in school history. His 73.15 average ranked eighth in the region and 23rd in the nation. Damus participated in 12 tournaments and posted four finishes in the top seven. He won the Nova Southeastern Fall Classic by shooting a 215. Damus also shot a 140 to finish tied for second at the Coker College Invitational. His round of 66 at the South Alabama Spring Classic was tied for the second-lowest round in school history.
Lingmerth put together an impressive freshman season. He is the first Argonaut freshman to receive PING All-America honors since Andrea Signor in 2004. An All-GSC First Team honoree, Lingmerth's 72.13 scoring average was third in the region and sixth-best in the nation. His scoring average was tied for the second-best average in school history. Lingmerth competed in eight tournaments and won the Southeastern Collegiate after shooting a 210. He also shot a 212 to finish tied for third at the GSC Championships. Lingmerth's 11 rounds of par or better were ninth-most in school history.
