GULF BREEZE, Fla. - The UWF men's golf team opened up the tournament with a two stroke lead, at the end of the first round Monday morning, and then increased it to an eight stroke lead by the end of the second round, completed Monday afternoon. Kyle Scott is in the lead after the first two rounds today at the Emerald Coast Collegiate at Tiger Point. Scott was scorching the course in the morning with a six under par 66 in the opening round.
The #1 ranked Argonauts lead #10 Georgia College & State University, by 8 strokes. Meanwhile, seventh ranked Valdosta State is sitting in fourth place with a score of 580, which is 13 strokes off the pace of the Argos. Texas A & M Commerce is third with a total score of 579. Thirteenth ranked Lynn is currently in seventh place, while 18th ranked North Alabama is ninth overall.
UWF's Kyle Scott turned in nine birdies during the first two rounds, and is the individual leader, with an 8 under par 136 through 36 holes. Valdosta State All-American Brent Witcher, leads all golfers with 11 birdies thru the first 36 holes, and is second overall just two strokes back of Scott. UWF's Matthew Galloway is tied for 5th individually with a two under par 142. Scott's 66 in round one, and Witcher's score of 67 in round two are the two best rounds so far on the 7,041 yard par 72 East Course at Tiger Point.
Ryan Zebeau is the third Argonaut to be in the top 10 individually. Zebeau has turned in rounds of 71 and 72, to card a one under par 143, which is tied for 9th best. Meanwhile, Tobias Rosendahl, coming off a victory last week, is tied for 14th best with a consistent even par 144, with both rounds of 72.
Otto Bonning and Federico Damus are also in the top 40 individually through the first two rounds. Bonning is tied for 32nd place with a two round total of 148, which is four over par. Meanwhile, Damus is six over par with a total of 150 for the two rounds, which is good for a 38th place tie. Kevin Cooper is also participating for the Argos, and has a two round total of 158.
The final round is Tuesday at Tiger Point, as 17 teams and 90 players are competing in the tournament that is full of teams from the same region of Division II, and includes eight teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation.
