A member of the Argonauts golf team, Fell graduated from West Florida in 1991. After graduating he won the 1991 Pensacola News-Journal Amateur Championship. The following year, he became a PGA apprentice at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass, home of THE PLAYERS Championship. Since arriving at West Florida in February 1995, he has guided the Argonauts to 10 top-10 finishes in NAIA/NCAA Division II tournament play. Fell has become the first coach to claim the national title in the program's history. He has won both of West Florida's trophies, claiming the first in 2001 and the second in 2008. He has earned 47 tournament victories with his players earning 34 All-American honors and 48 All-GSC selections.

Fell's coaching story began when he returned to his alma mater, West Florida, in 1995 to accept the position of men's golf head coach. Since then he has established the men's golf program as a top-contender in both the GSC and the nation. West Florida captured the GSC Championship in just his first season with the Argonauts, leading to his attaining the 1995 GSC Coach of the Year award. The same year, he led the Argonauts to a runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championship.

In 1997, he was named GSC Coach of the Year after the Argonauts' first place finish at the GSC Championship, a title the team successfully defended in 1998. He was also named the 1998 GSC Coach of the Year. In only his fourth year, Fell led the Argonauts to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championship as well as coaching sophomore Orjan Larsen to becoming West Florida's first individual national champion. The following year, he led the Argonauts to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championship.

From 2001-2008, Fell's Argonauts dominated the GSC, winning six conference championships. In 2001, he was named GSC Coach of the Year and guided the Argonauts to the 2001 NCAA Division II Championship title. He was named NCAA Division II District 3 South Coach of the Year in addition to NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year and Golfweek Division II Collegiate Coach of the Year.

In 2003, he was named NCAA Division II South Region Coach of the Year. Fell received GSC Coach of the Year honors five additional times, in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and most recently 2008 after coaching the Argonauts to another GSC Championship title. Fell then claimed his second NCAA Division II title. Once again, he was named NCAA Division II South Region Coach of the Year and NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year.

Fell has coached two members of the professional tour, including European Tour player, Stuart Manley. Overall, he has been the mentor to one Jack Nicklaus Division II National Player of the Year, Golfweek Division II Collegiate Player of the Year, U.S. Open low amateur, Palmer Cup team member, Team USA member vs. Japan, Walker Cup team member, GSC Commissioner's Trophy recipient, Phil Michelson Division II Freshman of the Year and eight GSC individual champions.

He has coached 12 student-athletes with All-American Scholar honors. Additionally, under Fell 13 student-athletes have earned Academic All-GSC selections. His continued success with all aspects of the Argonaut golf program is reflected in each of his many honors.
