PENSACOLA, Fla. - The top ranked defense in regards to opponents' field goal percentage, is back in action this week with games at St. Leo and Nova Southeastern. The Monday evening contest at St. Leo will be broadcast on Stretch Internet. Click on the Stretch Internet link on the right side of the UWF Athletics Home page. The Wednesday game at Nova Southeastern is a rematch of the November 20th game in Pensacola.
The Argonauts are holding their opponents to a low 35.8 shooting percentage on the season. West Florida also leads the Gulf South Conference in blocked shots at 5.57 per game, and ranks second as a team in rebounds with 43.0 per game. Kenny Holmes leads the GSC in rebounding with 9.9 per game, while Charles Bouie leads the league in Blocks with 3.57 per game. Meanwhile, point guard Deondre Boynton leads the conference in assists with 5.57 per game.
West Florida will take on two Sunshine State Conference opponents this week on the road. Monday night the Argonauts take on the Lions from St. Leo, and then travel to Ft. Lauderdale to play Nova Southeastern. St. Leo is 4-2 on the season and is led by Jordan Prais, who is scoring 19.9 points per game. Meanwhile, Nova Southeastern is 5-2 on the season, and they have won five in a row, starting with a win over West Florida 73-61 in Pensacola on November 20th.
The Argonauts Kenny Holmes was recently named the GSC player of the week with back to back double-doubles to give him the conference best rebounding statistics. However, Holmes is just as good defensively, as he is third in the league in steals with 16 so far in seven games. Charles Bouie, the league leader in Blocks, is also eighth in the GSC in rebounds at 7.7 per game. The Argonauts will put their league leading statistics on the line as they take on their opponents this week.
