PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF Men's Basketball program challenges three Division I teams in Exhibition games, prior to opening the regular season at home on November 15th vs. Concordia Selma (Ala.). The Argos first four regular season games are at home. Coach Don Hogan was very pleased to complete the schedule, because "it is becoming very difficult to schedule teams at our place, since there are not many other D-II schools close by." Despite that, the Argos play 16 of their 27 scheduled games at home this season.
An outstanding pre-season exhibition lineup includes Florida State, Arkansas, and South Alabama. "This will be great for our kids, to play in front of big loud crowds on the road," Hogan stated, and added, "that can be a big help when it comes to conference games on the road late in the season." Getting on the exhibition schedule of three very strong D-I programs is impressive and Hogan explained how it happened. "We had the exhibition scheduled with South Alabama, while Head Coach John Pelphrey was still there, and once he left and took the Arkansas position, he still wanted to play us in an exhibition, and then South Alabama wanted to keep the game as well, so it worked out great for us."
The Argos will host the Hatch-Mott-McDonald Hoop Classic on December 29th and 30th. The Tournament will include UWF, Fayetteville State, Ouachita Baptist, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Games will be at 4:30 and 6:30 each day. The opening Conference game is at home vs. North Alabama on January 12th at 2:30 PM. As a tune up to the conference games, GSC West Division Powerhouse Delta State visits the UWF Fieldhouse on January 7th.
The Non-Conference schedule includes several key 'Regional' Matchups including home and away games scheduled with Columbus State of the Peach Belt Conference, and Nova Southeastern of the Sunshine State Conference. Finally, the Gulf South Conference Tournament is set for March 5th - 8th, in Southaven, Miss.
