UWF Men's Basketball Falls To Seminoles 79-58 in Exhibition Game

Oct. 31, 2007

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The UWF Men's Basketball team, starting three newcomers, fell a little short Wednesday night in Tallahassee, as Florida State controlled the boards on the way to a 79-58 victory over the Argos. The Seminoles out-rebounded West Florida by a 40-29 margin, and roared out to a 50-24 halftime lead. The Argos outscored the Seminoles in the second half 34-29, thanks to some hot shooting from Max Hoggard (So. / Micanopy, Fla.). Hoggard lead the Argos with 16 points, and tied FSU's Uche Echefu for the game high.

West Florida shot only 39% from the field in the first half, but stepped it up in the second half by connecting on five of ten tries from three point land. Hoggard was good for three of the three pointers, and was also a perfect 3-3 from the Free Throw line. Meanwhile, Forward Charles Bouie (Jr. / Pahokee, Fla.) had a strong night for the Argos with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Florida State had four starters finish with double figures, as Jason Rich (11), Toney Douglas (11), and Isaiah Swann (10) joined Echefu as the scoring leaders.

Guard Rod Doss (Jr. / Athens, Ala.) chipped in nine points for West Florida, while point guard Deondre Boynton (Jr. / Pompano Beach, Fla.) added six points and three assists. Forward Vitor Boccardo (Sr. / Rio De Janiero, Brazil) finished with six points, while Guard Josh Jackson (Jr. / Madison, Wisc.) added five. Wing player Kenny Holmes (Jr. / Slidell, La.) came off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds for the Argos. West Florida will play another Exhibition against a Division I team this Friday, when they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a game against the Razorbacks. Coach Don Hogan likes the challenge, and knows that it is a great measuring stick for his team to play against teams with very talented inside players. "I thought our kids battled, played hard and didn't give up," Hogan said. "We've got nine new players, and we have been going for two weeks and trying to see who knows what. But I was pleased with how our guys competed and banged physically."
