PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argonauts of West Florida (9-14) salvaged a win tonight over NCCAA school Palm Beach Atlantic (3-22), 82-60, to end a record nine game losing streak. The win was highlighted by Daniel Alcorn's career high 20 points. West Florida won their first game since defeating West Georgia on January 6.
West Florida dominated the second half, and outscored PBA, 51-32. The Argos shot 70.4 percent (19-for-27) from the field in the second half, and 58.5 percent for the game. Alcorn (Mt. Washington, Ky. / Bullitt East HS) added five rebound and five assists. He was 7-for-9 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. Barry Durosier (Orlando, Fla. / Niagara Univ.) scored 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting, with four assists. Deondre Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla. / North Broward Prep) collected a double-double. He had 10 points with 10 assists.
Palm Beach Atlantic shot just 35.8 percent from the field. Derek Barnes led the Sailfish with 18 points, and Rudy Buzzard added 10 points.
Leading by three at halftime, UWF went on a quick 8-2 run to take a 39-30 lead at the 17:40 mark. The Sailfish got no closer than six points from that point on. The Argos led by as many as 23 points in the second half. The first half was closely contested. There were seven lead changes and five ties. West Florida's largest first half lead was six.
