Crusaders Extend Argonauts Losing Streak

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - West Florida shot 44 percent (25-56) from the field and 89 percent (17-19) from the free throw line, but it was not enough as William Carey earned an 87-73 win over West Florida Thursday. West Florida's (8-14) school-record losing streak was extended to nine games. William Carey (15-8) earned a split of the season series with West Florida.

William Carey led throughout and started the game on an 11-5 run. With William Carey leading 25-17 with 6:03 remaining in the first half, the Crusaders finished the first half on a 16-6 run. Dexter Cheairs scored seven points during the run to help William Carey to an 18-point halftime lead.

Trailing 41-20 to start the second half, West Florida went on a 10-0 run in just over four minutes. Andy Beauchamp (Miami, Fla./Florida Community College at Jacksonville) scored six points during the run to cut the Crusaders lead to 43-33. However, William Carey immediately responded with a 13-5 run, and West Florida would not get any closer. William Carey posted the win, despite being outscored 50-46 in the second half.

Barry Durosier (Orlando, Fla./Niagara Univ.) led West Florida with 22 points. Daniel Alcorn (Mt. Washington, Ky./Bullitt East HS) added 12 points, while Beauchamp totaled 10 points and six rebounds. Jeremy Holder led four Crusaders in double-figures with 27 points.

West Florida will look to end their nine-game losing streak this Saturday against Palm Beach Atlantic. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UWF Field House. Follow the game with live stats on www.goargos.com.
