West Florida Falls Short 4-3 in Game Two on Saturday

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida baseball team lost to Valdosta State in game two of Saturday's doubleheader by a score of 4-3. The two teams will play the final game of the series and the final game of the season for UWF, Sunday afternoon at 1pm. West Florida could not come up with the offense they needed after senior pitcher Nick Presley came into the game to pitch five innings of relief allowing one run and striking out six.

Starting Pitcher John Sintes pitched two innings allowing eight hits, three runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Sintes was pulled in the top of the third after a walk and RBI double from Valdosta State. Nick Presley finished the third without allowing a run to score. Valdosta State scored one run in the fourth on only one hit. Presley did not allow another run after the fourth. Meanwhile, Sintes received the loss in the game moving his record to 2-5 on the season.

Senior Jon Reed scored the first run for UWF after being hit by a pitch. Craig Westcott drove in Reed after reaching base on a fielding error by the Valdosta State's shortstop. West Florida scored two more in the fifth to make it a 4-3 game but could not come up with a run the final two innings.

Tyler Hastings scored a run in the fifth after reaching on a double to left field. Kyle Andrews singled through the left side advancing Hastings to third before Brandon Brewer drove him in on an RBI single through the left side. Kyle Andrews scored after Brewer was caught in a rundown allowing Andrews to Score.

The two teams played 11 innings in game one before Valdosta State won 5-1, to set the stage for the doubleheader sweep. The Blazers improved to 34-15-1 on the season and wrapped up the top spot in the GSC East Division. Meanwhile, the Argos fell to 19-32 on the season, and the final game of the season for West Florida will be played on Sunday at 1pm, where the Argos will be looking to end the season with a win at home.
