West Florida pitching secures win over Northwest Missouri

PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida extended its win streak to five games with a 3-2 victory over Northwest Missouri State in the first game of the Wednesday's double header at Pelican Park on the UWF campus.

Northwest Missouri jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by belting three hits off West Florida starting pitcher Jon Sintes (Fort Walton Beach, Fla. /Pensacola Junior College) in the first inning. With two outs Britt Westman and John White each lined singles to the outfield, which were followed by a two-run double from Ryley Westman.

The Argonauts struck back with a three-run fifth inning to give West Florida a 3-2 lead. Daniel Jones (Wetumpka, Ala./ Gulf Coast C.C ) led off the inning getting hit by a pitch and was followed by a perfectly placed bunt for a hit from Jon Reed (Chesterfield, Va./ University of Virginia-Wise) to place runners on first and second.

The Argonauts would score the first run of the inning when Northwest Missouri State attempted to turn a double play but the Bearcats second baseman failed to catch the throw from the shortstop. The next batter Bo Williams (Ocala, Fla./ Pensacola Junior College) singled through the left side of the infield to knock in the second Argonaut run of the inning. Peter Antoske (Olmsted Township, Ohio/ St. Edwards H.S.) scored the final West Florida run of the inning and the game on a sacrifice fly to right field.

After allowing the two runs on three hits in the first inning Sintes settled down and allowed only one more Bearcat hit to earn his third win of the season. He issued only one walk and had two strike outs.

Phil Lawhorn (Virginia Beach, Va./ Pensacola Junior College) worked a perfect ninth inning striking out all three batters he faced to earn his fourth save of the season.
