West Florida Completes Four Game Sweep of Stillman

Feb. 11, 2007

Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida Argonauts (6-3) jumped all over Stillman College (0-6) early in game two of today's double header, by building a 5-0 lead through two innings. West Florida prevailed, 7-3, to win their sixth straight game.

Similar to game one of today's double header, Stillman made critical defensive and pitching miscues, and UWF took full advantage. Kyle DeBos led off the first inning with a walk, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third on an errant throw from a pick-off attempt by Stillman starter Chris Murphy. Peter Antoske walked, and stole second base. DeBos scored when Tiger catcher Garrett Gray attempted to throw out Antoske at second. Bo Williams singled scoring Antoske, and UWF led 2-0.

The Argos scored three runs on four hits and two errors in the second inning. West Florida did all of their damage with two outs. Kyle Brown got on base when he was hit by a pitch. DeBos followed with a single through the left side. Brown advanced to third and DeBos moved to third on a fielding error by left fielder Jack Hazelrig. Antoske's singled through the left side scoring both Brown and DeBos. Williams had a base hit RBI single down the left field line, and UWF led 5-0.

In the fourth inning, Stillman got on the board. With one out, Marcus Whitfield singled up the middle. B.J. Fokakis was hit by pitch. Nathan Moncrief hit what looked to be a single to right field, but Antoske threw out Fokakis from the outfield. Whitfield scored on Thomas Walker's RBI single up the middle.

The Argos answered in the bottom half of the fourth. Brown walked and stole second to lead off. Following a DeBos pop up, Antoske walked. Williams was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brown scored on an RBI ground out by Clay Wallace.

Stillman cut the UWF lead to 6-3 when Walker connected on a two-run homer around the left field foul pole off starter Nick Presley. Presley was relieved by David Pedro who struck out Hazelrig to finish the sixth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, UWF picked up an insurance run on another two out rally on no hits. Kyle Andrews walked, and Williams reached safely when the catcher Gray couldn't handle an infield pop up. Williams got caught in a rundown in-between first and second base, allowing Andrews to score from third.

Presley (2-0) got the win in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out seven. Pedro (1) notched the save in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless relief. The Tigers out hit the Argos, 7-5. However, SC committed four errors to none for UWF.
