PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida could not find a way to pull out a win in this weekend's three-game set against fourth ranked Florida Southern. The Moccasin's scored two runs in the second, fourth and eighth innings en route to a 6-2 win over the Argonauts today at Pelican Park.
West Florida struck first in the bottom of the first inning. The Argonauts took advantage of an infield throwing error that allowed Peter Antoske (Olmsted Township, Ohio / St. Edward HS) to reach first base safely. Bo Williams (Ocala, Fla. / Pensacola JC) followed with an RBI double down the left field line off FSC starter Jeremy Thorne.
The Mocs rebounded with two runs in the top of the second on a two-run blast by David Golliner off UWF starter Jon Sintes (Fort Walton Beach, Fla. / Pensacola JC).
With one out, Golliner singled and Will Cherry doubled putting runners on second and third. Golliner scored on a ground out by Luke Abraham, and Cherry scored on a single by Bryan Brown giving FSC a 4-1 lead through three-and-a-half innings.
West Florida picked up a run in the fifth inning. Kyle Brown (Gulf Breeze, Fla. / Gulf Breeze HS) doubled with one out and later scored on Antoske's RBI single. The Mocs tacked on two runs in the eighth. Cherry led off with a double off UWF reliever Phil Lawhorn (Virginia Beach, Va. / Pensacola JC). He scored on Arden McWilliams' single to right center field. McWilliams scored from first on Brown's double to center to give FSC a 6-2 advantage.
Sintes (0-1) got the loss in seven innings of work. He struck out six and walked five. Sintes allowed four runs on six hits. Thorne (1-0) picked up the win. He allowed just one earned run over six innings on five hits.
