Florida State University hosted the Seminole invitational where some of the Argonauts improved their personal bests, in competition against some of the top Division I athletes attempting to qualify for the National Meet.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The University of West Florida Athletic Department is deeply saddened by the untimely loss of one of their family. Sophomore cross country and track student-athlete Ashley Collis, 19, passed away on Saturday as a result of a car accident. She was traveling to the Atlanta area to be with her family for Easter when the accident occurred. This is the second tragedy within the UWF Athletic family this semester, as the women's golf team lost Danielle Smith in a traffic accident in mid January.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the top Division II academic teams for fall 2007. The University of West Florida Women's Cross Coutry team was listed as the eighth best in the nation, with a 3.67 GPA. The ranking put the Argos first in the Gulf South Conference. Seattle Pacific had the top mark with a 3.80, while 63 of the 299 institutions had greater than a 3.0 GPA.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Gulf South Conference announced the fall sport All-Academic First Team selections, and Honor Roll selections for Football, Soccer, Volleyball, and Cross Country. The Argonauts earned six first team selections, and 37 other earned honor roll selections. West Florida was third in the conference with the 43 selections. Only Harding (73), and Ouachita Baptist (50) had more honorees, and both of those schools have football. In fact, Harding had 30 football players, and Ouachita Baptist had 10 football players, so excluding football, the Argonauts tied with Harding for the top total of 43 honorees.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[In the Men's 10k meet, the West Florida men finished in 5th place out of the 19 teams at the 2007 Division II South Region Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. Senior Brian Gowin earned a spot on the All-Regional team with his 9th place finish in a time of 33:10. In the Women's 6k meet, West Florida finished tied for 7th place out of the 23 teams participating. Senior Diana Sitar was the top Argonaut runner in 16th place, finishing with a time of 22:59. "I was very proud of both teams, considering the injuries that several runners have had to fight through, most of them still ran their best at the end of the season," stated Head Coach Matt Dobson. "All the kids gave it their all today and many had their personal bests."]]></description>

The Men's and Women's Soccer teams are hosting the Gulf South Conference Championships here in Pensacola, and both teams are the #1 seeds. The Men are ranked 3rd in the nation, while the women are 9th in the nation. Meanwhile, the 25th ranked Volleyball team is hosting West Alabama Friday night for Senior Night, and the team has already set school records for most overall wins and conference wins in a season. Saturday morning, the men's and women's Cross Country teams are in Huntsville, Alabama to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships.]]></description>

The meet was one of the largest Invitational races of the year, as 327 runners from 45 teams competed in the men's 8k race, and 366 runners from nearly 50 women's teams competed in the 5k event, run in muddy conditions.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[Junior Eric Mayes (Pensacola, Fla.) became the first ever Argonaut Cross Country runner to earn the runner of the week honors in the Gulf South Conference. Mayes finished third in the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede this past weekend to help his team to a second place team finish. He covered the 8k (5 mile) run in 27:13, ironically finishing just behind last year's All-American Michael Padilla. Interestingly, Padilla never won the runner of the week award, despite owning five of the top 10 performances in Argonaut history.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Argonauts Men's and Women's Cross Country teams both finished in 2nd place in the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede at the Escambia county Equestrian Center Saturday morning. Both meets were very competitive, as the UWF men finished 2nd (out of seven) with a score of 47, just behind Rutgers Camden with 45. Florida Gulf Coast University was third with 49. The UWF women finished 2nd behind Florida Gulf Coast, but were able to out distance a strong Florida Tech team, and four other teams.]]></description>
