# 22 Argonauts Seeking Regional Championship Success

PENSACOLA, FLA. – After a seventh place finish at the Gulf South Conference Championships in Memphis, Tenn. on Oct. 22, the 22nd ranked West Florida women’s cross country team will compete in the 26-team field NCAA Division II South Regional this Saturday at 8:00 a.m. EST. The 6K race will be held at the Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City, Fla., hosted by Florida Southern College. West Florida is looking to improve on a 16th place finish last year.

West Florida is led by a sophomore and two freshmen. Sophomore Dawn Kane was the highest finishing Argonaut racer in five of the six races. At last year’s regional championships, Kane finished 80th with a time of 25:39.

Freshman Nicole Stanley finished tied with Kane in 46th place with a time of 20:32 at the GSC Championships. Stanley placed in the top ten in four of West Florida’s six races. Fellow freshman Margaret Harter is coming off a 35th place finish at the GSC Championships. Harter placed in the top 10 three times this season.

Also running for West Florida at this year’s regional championships will be: Kim Gallagher, Naomi Evangelista, Lindsey Failing and Diana Sitar.

This will be the second time this season that the Argonauts will race on this course. Earlier this season at the NCAA Division II Pre-Regional, West Florida finished first among Division II schools and second overall among the 16 schools. Kane was the highest Argonaut finisher in 12th place, while Harter and Stanley finished 21st and 24th respectively.

The top four teams, and the top two individuals not on those four teams, will qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships on Nov. 19 in Pomona, Calif.
