Kane
Leads Argonauts to First Place Finish
VALDOSTA, GA. - Even though an individual Argonaut runner did not win the 5K womens race, six of the top 10 finishes belonged to Argonaut harriers as West Florida posted a first place finish at the Blazer Classic Saturday in Valdosta, Ga. West Florida placed first with 25 points, followed by Valdosta State, 39 (2nd), Albany State, 85 (3rd), and Georgia Southwestern, 125 (4th).
After
Valdosta States Melissa Daugherty crossed the finish line first,
Dawn Kane set a personal best time of 19:37.19 to finish second. Two other
Argonaut runners, Margaret Harter and Nicole Stanley finished just hundredths
of a second behind Kane. Harter finished third with a time of 19:37.54
while Stanley placed fourth with a time of 19:37.91. Diana Sitar earned
a seventh place finish with a time of 20.01. Kim Gallaghers time
of 20:10 was good for ninth place while Lindsey Failing was right behind
Gallagher in 10th place with a time of 20:48.
Other
Argonaut finishers were Frency Ramos, 21:01 (12th), Kim Burgess, 21:22
(15th), Emily McHugh, 22:00 (16th), and Rebecca Thielmann, 22:55 (22nd).
After their successful run in Valdosta, the Argonauts will prepare for the South Pre-Regional on Oct. 1 in Dade City, Fla. The NCAA Division II South Region Championships will be held on the same course on Nov. 5.
