Padilla and Hicks Participate in Track and Field Nationals

ABILENE, TX: Two West Florida cross country runners, Michael Padilla and Ramad Hicks, both participated in the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships this past weekend at Elmer Gray Stadium on the campus of Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX.

Padilla, a sophomore pre-medicine major from Pensacola, ran on Thursday in the 1500 meter run preliminaries. Padilla ran in the first heat and finished with a time of 4:04.49, but did not qualify for the finals.

Hicks, a native of Niceville, FL, ran twice at the championships in the 800 meter race. In the preliminaries, Hicks posted the sixth fastest time of the 16 runners and advanced to the finals. Hicks finished in fourth in the first heat with a time of 1:52.13. On Saturday evening in the 800 meter finals, Hicks placed eighth with a time of 1:54.27 to earn All-America honors.

The Abilene Christian University men’s team and the Lincoln University women’s team each repeated as national champions.
