TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Continuing their successful track season, the West Florida men's and women's track teams traveled east last week and this past weekend for the FSU Relays on the campus of Florida State University.
Brian Gowin (Pensacola, Fla./Pine Forest HS) was the highest-finishing Argonaut runner in Thursday's 5,000 meter run. He finished 12th with a time of 15:29.70. Justin Gates (16:47.97), Justin Dickieson (16:53.88), Eric Mayes (17:00.20) and Patrick McHugh (17:38.41) also participated and finished in four consecutive positions from 23rd to 26th. Two Argonauts also participated in the 1,500 meters. Craig Henry (Mary Esther, Fla./Fort Walton Beach HS) placed 17th with a time of 4:24.66. Ray Dunn (Jay, Fla./Jay HS) finished with a time of 4:40.03 to place 19th.
On Friday, three Argonauts participated in the 5,000 meter run. Rebecca Thielemann (Dunellon, Fla./Crystal River HS) finished 22nd with a time of 20:23.95. Amy Baird (Graysville, Tenn./Tennessee-Chattanooga) posted a time of 22:27.03 to finish 28th, while Lindsey Failing's (Pace, Fla./Pace HS) time of 22:30.20 was good for 29th.
Diana Sitar (Las Vegas, Nevada/The Meadows School) and Margaret Harter (Milton, Fla./Pace HS) both raced in the 800 meters. Sitar finished in 12th place (2:24.81) while Harter (2:28.29) placed 16th. Sitar also ran in the 1,500 meters and finished 22nd with a time of 5:04.47.
Two Argonauts were also in the discus competition. Bryn Renda finished ninth with a throw of 37.31 meters. Emily Dulaney participated, but committed a foul.
West Florida will be back in action on Apr. 14 at the Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee.
